Patient-Facing Pharmaceutical UX & Dosing Tool

Smart Scheduler
(Sogroya Dosing Planner Tool)

When Novo Nordisk needed a patient-facing dosing planner for Sogroya.com, the goal was simple: help patients and caregivers feel confident about once-weekly injections—and reduce wasted medication along the way.

The Problem

Patients sometimes discard medication pens that don't contain enough for a full dose—creating unnecessary waste and confusion. The goal was to help users understand how to make the most of what they have, while keeping the experience simple and supportive.

There was also competitive pressure: a similar tool ("MyNgenla Plan") existed in the market, so this experience need to be clearly differentiated, not a copy/paste.

Competitive dosing planner interface reviewed as part of the Sogroya Smart Scheduler UX analysis.

The Research

I started by reviewing and interacting with the competitor tool and its PDF output. The big takeaway: even when the information is technically "correct," the experience can still feel overwhelming if it's too dense or text-heavy.

So the design challenge became:

How do we reduce cognitive load and make dosing instructions easier to scan understand, and follow?

The Solution

Instead of designing "just another form," I designed the Smart Scheduler around a calendar-first experience—using a monthly calendar as a familiar visual anchor that helps users quickly understand when in injections happen.

To keep the flow lightweight and approachable, I leaned into:

  • a more visual form experience (less text-heavy)

  • interactive selection patterns (weekly calendar + carousel)

  • a progress tracker to keep users moving confidently

The output is a 3-page printable PDF that includes, plan, instructions, and required safety content-built to be useful even after the user leaves the site.

Learnings & Outcomes

This project was a reminder that in healthcare UX, clarity is the product. Small decisions—like chunking information, using visual anchors, and adding tooltips where users might hesitate—can make a complex experience feel manageable.

And early engagement data supported what we hoped: users weren't just landing on the tool—they were actively interacting and downloading their plans.
